The front end is the point of contact between users and technology. When it comes to web app development, the front end becomes essential. But what is front end development? And why is it so important—especially in the context of EU projects—for a software house like HT Apps?
Read on to find out.

What is front end development?
Front end development refers to the entire “visible” part of an application or website. This includes:
- layout;
- design;
- ease of use;
- user experience (UX);
- loading speed;
- accessibility.
In short, it is everything the user perceives.
Have you ever opened a web app—whether it’s a management tool like JO Hall, an e-learning platform like e-Logos, or a time-tracking system like JOBy—and immediately felt like you already knew what to do? That happens because skilled developers ensure that everything on the screen is intuitive, immediate, and easy to use.
In fact, the web apps developed by HT Apps are designed to be user-friendly.
What is the back end used for?
If the front end is the visible part, the back end is the “hidden engine” of the app—in other words, the code. Developed by programmers, and increasingly supported by AI, it manages data logic and communication between servers and databases.
Let’s look at an example: in a web app like JOBy by VITECO (another company within the JO Group, to which HT Apps belongs), the front end allows users to clock in with a simple tap, while the back end records the data and generates reports.
Without the back end, the front end would be just a static interface. Without the front end, the back end would be practically unusable. It is the integration between the two that makes the difference.
What does a front end developer do?
A front end developer translates design and required functionalities into code—and beyond. Their tasks include:
- developing the user interface;
- integrating with APIs and the back end;
- testing the user experience;
- optimizing performance.
Within our software house, for example, front end developers work closely with designers and project managers to create efficient websites and platforms.
In fact, the front end developer is a highly specialized and essential role, especially in the context of EU projects, an area in which JO Group is actively involved.
Why is front end development for web apps important in EU project development?
As mentioned earlier, we develop websites and platforms for European projects. EU project development is the process of conceiving, developing, and managing projects funded by European Union programmes. In this context, web app development plays a crucial role.
Front end development is important because:
1. It improves project accessibility
All websites and platforms developed for the European Union must be easily usable by multilingual users from different countries. In short, they serve a diverse audience that requires a high level of inclusivity.
2. It enhances impact
An intuitive and well-designed interface encourages the adoption of proposed solutions, increasing visibility, engagement, and the overall impact expected from the project.

Real examples of successful front end development
As mentioned earlier, HT Apps is proudly a partner in several transnational consortia. We highlight two key examples that led to the development of successful web apps: AccelerAction and Trova Bandi.
1. AccelerAction
AccelerAction is a web app developed within the Horizon Europe programme. Its goal is to support business accelerators and foster innovation ecosystems.
The web app includes four main tools:
- a training area featuring interactive courses;
- a library with articles and publications;
- a community for information exchange;
- an interactive map designed to help users find potential partners through an AI-based matchmaking algorithm.
Overall, the project promotes innovation and encourages collaboration in the deep tech sector.
2. Trova Bandi
Trova Bandi (formerly MyFunds App), developed within the REFERENCE project, allows users to explore available funding opportunities.
It is designed for national and regional stakeholders, local authorities, academic institutions, and both established and start-up businesses (depending on the specific call requirements).
Searching for opportunities is very simple: users just need to set filters (who you are, location, sector of interest, and type of call), and the platform returns the most relevant results. The database behind Trova Bandi is continuously updated and currently includes funding opportunities from the 2021–2027 programming period.
Front end: not just a technical component, but much more
The front end is not just a technical component, but a strategic element in web app development. In fact, it is what ultimately defines the user experience and, as a result, the success of a project.
Choosing HT Apps as a partner in an international consortium means:
- having effective and intuitive front end solutions;
- seamlessly integrating front end and back end;
- developing innovative web apps.
